Getting To Know Charmaine Bassett
Birth date: 8/15 Hometown: Richmond, CA High School: De Anza College: Grambling State
I was nominated in high school: (I was nominated for 16 categories and I won 11) -Director of School Spirit -Most likely to succeed -Most likely to become a millionaire (Still working on it!) -Most popular
Most memorable high school moment: -I was vice -president of the black student union and I had invited Dr. Ice formally of the group UTFO and his new partner Slice to speak to the students. While on my way the stairs to meet them....the heel of my shoe got caught in the crack of the stairs and I went flying down about ten steps and landed smack dab in front of the double doors and on my knee caps. And to make matters worse!...the heel of my shoe was still stuck in the crack at the top of the stairs!....So, I had to meet my guest with a swollen knee cap and a broken shoe with a smile on my face... Because the show must .....go on!
People who inspired me: -Dee Dee Morris- Director of the East Bay Center of the Perfoming Arts. He would sit me down in his office and tell me "Girl if you could see what I could see...one day you going to be somebody". Those very words continue to inspire me today.
-Mildred Moss-Director of the Miss Bayou Classic Pageant. When I was a starving college student ) and I mean literally!. She would allow me to make groceries out of her cubberds. She would give me a brown bag and open her cabinets and allow me to take whatever I needed....That was a wonderful lady!.
My Greatest Joy: Having the Lord Jesus Christ in my life and my family
Who in Life Would I Love to Meet: -The O'Jays - In Music - Bishop T.D. Jakes-In Spirit - Oprah Winfrey - In Television - Barbara Waters - In Journalism
When did I get started in Radio:- -15 years ago I was an on air personality for KGRM at Grambling State University. We were a 50,000 watt college station. I played everything from classical, reggae, big band, jazz, blues to the quiet storm.
My favorite artist: - I have been an O'Jays fan since I was two years old. My first two songs by the O'Jays I use to sing were "Darlin' Darlin Baby and Brandy". They are my favorite group of all time. - I also love Kirk Franklin what an anointed and blessed man.
My favorite Movies: - B.A.P.S. with Halle Barry - Soul Food with Vivica A. Fox - The Wiz with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross
My Favorite T.V. Shows: - Good Times-Classic - American Idol -America's Next Top Model -The Apprentice
My Favorite Songs: - What fits the situation at the time (I have so many I can't even count) In the words of the O'Jays....."I Love, I Love Music" period....sweet, sweet music, but if I had to choose one it would be Mcfadden and Whitehead "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" (because I'm on the move!).
My Life's Moto: It doesn't matter what you think about me....It's what I think about myself....that matters most! and never let anyone make you change the opinion or image that you have of yourself....That is what gives you the power to be who you are...
