Songwriter Sues Janet Jackson

Some Santa Cruz songwriter is suing Janet Jackson, claiming that her
Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis-produced hit “All for You” was based on a song that
he wrote in 1986 for his then-girlfriend, which he later played for Jam and
Lewis.

The accuser, Michael Ortega of Santa Cruz, California, told MSNBC.com: “It’
s taken a long time to get this to court. From what I gather [Jimmy Jam and
Terry Lewis] have a pattern of basically, building collages of other people’s
work for their songwriting.”

Ortega says it wasn’t his intention to file a claim against Ms. Jackson-If-You’
re-Nasty, but nevertheless, her name appears as a defendant alongside
Jam and Lewis, her label Virgin Records, and others.

Ortega is asking for a trial jury and is alleging copyright infringement,
slander, and other charges.
